After Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title, a tragedy struck during what was meant to be a celebratory moment—resulting in the death of 11 people. The incident occurred near Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, when a stampede broke out amid the massive crowd gathered to celebrate RCB’s historic win. Several others were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered an investigation into the cause of the tragedy. He stated, “I do not wish to defend this incident. Our government will not politicize it. I’ve ordered a magistrate-level inquiry and given them 15 days to submit a report.” He further explained, “The stadium has only small gates. People tried to enter through those gates, but they broke down due to the overwhelming crowd, leading to a stampede. No one expected such a massive turnout. The stadium’s capacity is around 35,000, but 2 to 3 lakh people showed up....

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have become the IPL champions for the first time after defeating Punjab Kings. In the final held at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad today, RCB beat Punjab by 6 runs to win their first-ever IPL title in the 18-year history of the league. Chasing a target of 191 runs, Punjab could only manage 184 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Punjab’s Shashank Singh top-scored with 61 runs off 30 balls, hitting 3 fours and 6 sixes. English contributed 39 runs off 23 balls with 1 four and 4 sixes. Captain Shreyas Iyer was dismissed for just 1 run on the second ball he faced. Opener Priyansh Arya scored 24, Prabhsimran Singh added 26, and Nehal Wadhera chipped in with 15 runs. In the second qualifier match that began on Sunday and concluded on Monday, Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians , confirming that a new team will lift the IPL trophy this year. Punjab secured a spot in the final by beating Mumbai by 5 wickets. Chasing a target of 204 runs , Punjab reached the total with 1 over to spare , losing just 5 wickets in the process. They will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final on Tuesday. For Punjab, captain Shreyas Iyer played a match-winning knock of 87 runs off 41 balls *, smashing 5 fours and 8 sixes .
