"Thrilling victory by Kolkata"
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders clinched a thrilling victory over Rajasthan Royals by just 1 run.
Chasing a target of 207 runs, Rajasthan fell just short, finishing at 205 for 8 in their 20 overs. Kolkata narrowly edged out the win by a single run.
Rajasthan had a poor start, losing two wickets for just 8 runs. Apart from skipper Riyan Parag, who came in at number four, none of the top-order batters managed to settle at the crease.
Parag missed out on a century by just 5 runs. He played a blistering knock of 95 off 45 balls, smashing 6 fours and 8 sixes, but his effort wasn’t enough to secure the win.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 34, and Shimron Hetmyer contributed 29. Shubham Dubey and Jofra Archer were at the crease during the final over, with 22 runs needed for victory.
The last over turned out to be dramatic. Dubey hit two sixes and a four, bringing the requirement down to 3 runs off the final ball to win, or 2 to tie. However, he managed just a single and was run out attempting the second run, handing Rajasthan a heartbreaking 1-run defeat.
In the bowling department, Moeen Ali, Harshit Rana, and Varun Chakravarthy each took 2 wickets.
Earlier, after winning the toss at Eden Gardens, Kolkata opted to bat first and posted 206 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Opener Sunil Narine was dismissed for 11 runs, while the other opener, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, scored 35. Kolkata lost their first two wickets after reaching 69 runs.
Following that, captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi built a 42-run partnership for the third wicket. Rahane was dismissed for 30. Angkrish then teamed up with Andre Russell for a 61-run stand for the fourth wicket. Angkrish scored 44 runs off 31 balls before getting out.
Russell played a brilliant innings, remaining unbeaten on 57 off just 25 balls, smashing 4 fours and 6 sixes.
In bowling, Jofra Archer, Yudhvir Singh, Maheesh Theekshana, and Riyan Parag each picked up one wicket.
With this win, Kolkata climbed to sixth position on the points table with 11 points, while Rajasthan remained in eighth place with 6 points.
