Royal Challengers Bangalore Defeat Lucknow Super Giants to Reach IPL First Qualifier
In the final league match, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Lucknow Super Giants to secure their place in the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
At Lucknow’s home ground, Ekana Cricket Stadium, on Tuesday, RCB chased down a massive target of 228 runs, achieving it in 18.4 overs with 4 wickets down.
Captain Jitesh Sharma and Virat Kohli's Half-Centuries Lead RCB to Victory
In RCB’s win, captain Jitesh Sharma and Virat Kohli played crucial half-century innings. Sharma remained unbeaten with 85 runs off 33 balls, including 8 fours and 6 sixes.
Kohli contributed 54 runs off 30 balls, hitting 10 fours.
Mayank Aggarwal and Captain Sharma Seal Victory with Unbeaten Partnership
Manan Aggarwal remained not out on 41 runs off 23 balls, hitting 5 fours. Together with captain Sharma, they put on an unbeaten 107-run partnership for the fifth wicket to secure the win.
Opener Phil Salt scored 30 runs off 19 balls, while Rajat Patidar was dismissed for 14 runs off 7 balls. For Lucknow, Will Jacks took 2 wickets, and Avesh Khan and Akash Singh took 1 wicket each.
Earlier, RCB won the toss and elected to bat. Lucknow, batting first, scored 227 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs.
Lucknow’s captain Rishabh Pant played a brilliant century innings, remaining unbeaten on 118 runs off 61 balls, including 11 fours and 8 sixes.
Pant shared a 152-run partnership for the second wicket with opener Mitchell Marsh. Marsh played a half-century innings, scoring 67 runs off 37 balls, including 4 fours and 5 sixes.
The other opener, Matthew Boetzer, scored 14 runs off 12 balls. Nicholas Pooran made 13 runs off 10 balls with 1 four before getting out. For RCB, Romario Shepherd, Nuwan Thushara, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took one wicket each.
Lucknow had already been eliminated from the playoffs. With this win, RCB secured the second position in the league and qualified for the first qualifier. They will now face Punjab Kings on Thursday for a place in the final.
Following RCB’s victory, Gujarat Titans will have to play the eliminator match. Gujarat will face Mumbai Indians in the eliminator on Friday.
