Punjab Kings Advance to the First Qualifier of IPL

Punjab Kings have qualified for the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

On Monday, Punjab defeated Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets to finish in the top 2 at the end of the league stage.

Chasing a target of 185 runs, Punjab reached the target with 9 balls to spare, losing 3 wickets in the process.

Punjab openers Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis both scored half-centuries. Priyansh scored 62 runs off 35 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes.

Josh Inglis was the highest scorer for the team with 73 runs from 42 balls, hitting 9 fours and 3 sixes. Prabhsimran Singh contributed 13 runs.

Captain Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 26 runs off 16 balls, including 1 four and 2 sixes. Nihal Baidhera was not out on 2 runs.

For Mumbai, Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets while Jasprit Bumrah claimed 1.

Earlier, at Sawai Mansingh Cricket Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. Mumbai, batting first, scored 184 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav played a half-century for Mumbai, scoring the highest 57 runs off 39 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. Captain Hardik Pandya contributed 26 runs from 15 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Opener Ryan Rickelton was dismissed for 27 runs, while the other opener Rohit Sharma scored 24 before getting out. Will Jacks scored 17 runs off 8 balls, and Naman Ojha made 20 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed.

For Punjab, Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh, and Vijaykumar Vaishakh took 2 wickets each, while Harpreet Brar claimed 1 wicket.

The final league stage match will be played on Tuesday between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants.

If RCB wins that game, they will advance to the first qualifier. If they lose, Gujarat, currently in second place, will qualify for the first qualifier. Mumbai will then have to play the eliminator.
