Mumbai becomes the fourth team to secure a spot in the IPL playoffs.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians have secured a place in the IPL playoffs. With this, all four playoff spots have now been finalized.

Today, Mumbai defeated Delhi Capitals by 59 runs, becoming the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs. This marks the 11th time Mumbai has reached the IPL playoffs.

Previously, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings had already booked their spots. With the loss, Delhi has been eliminated from the league stage.

Chasing a target of 181 runs, Delhi were bowled out for just 121 in 18.2 overs. Despite a poor start, Mumbai’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance. Delhi lost early wickets, with captain Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel both dismissed for just 6 runs. KL Rahul also fell cheaply, scoring only 11 runs. Delhi could manage just 27 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in the initial phase.

In a must-win game to keep their playoff hopes alive, Delhi’s batters put in a disappointing performance. Sameer Rizvi was the top scorer with 39 runs, followed by Bipraj Nigam with 20 and Ashutosh Sharma with 18. No other batter managed to reach double figures.

With the ball, Mitchell Santner was outstanding, taking 3 wickets for just 11 runs in 4 overs. Jasprit Bumrah also shined, claiming 3 wickets for 12 runs in 3.2 overs.

Earlier, Delhi had won the toss and opted to field first. Mumbai, batting first, posted a total of 180 runs, thanks to a half-century from Suryakumar Yadav.

After losing 3 wickets for just 58 runs, Suryakumar and Tilak Varma steadied the innings with a 55-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Suryakumar remained unbeaten, scoring the highest 74 runs off 43 balls, including 7 fours and 6 sixes. Tilak Varma contributed 27 runs, while opener Ryan Rickelton made 25. The other opener, Rohit Sharma, managed just 5 runs, and captain Hardik Pandya scored only 3.

Naman Dhir also remained not out on 27. In bowling, Mukesh Kumar was the pick for Delhi, taking 2 wickets.

With this victory, Mumbai accumulated 17 points from 13 matches. Meanwhile, Delhi finished with only 13 points.
