In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lucknow Super Giants defeated table-toppers Gujarat Titans by 33 runs.
Chasing a mammoth target of 236 runs, Gujarat fell short, scoring 202 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their full 20 overs.
Opener Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for 21, captain Shubman Gill scored 35, and Jos Buttler contributed 33 runs. Gujarat had posted 96 runs for 3 wickets at that stage.
Needing a big partnership to stay in the chase, Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan added 86 runs for the fourth wicket. Rutherford was dismissed for 38, while Shahrukh scored a quickfire 57 off 29 balls. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to capitalize, and Gujarat couldn’t maintain momentum.
In the bowling department, Will O’Riley took 3 wickets, while Avesh Khan and Ayush picked up 2 wickets each.
Earlier, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat won the toss and elected to field first. Lucknow posted a massive total of 235 runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in 20 overs.
Lucknow got off to a strong start, with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh putting on a 91-run partnership for the first wicket.
Markram scored 36 runs off 24 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes before being dismissed. Gujarat took their first wicket in the 9.5th over, with Sai Kishore getting Markram out.
After that, Mitchell Marsh was joined by Nicholas Pooran, and the duo built a remarkable 221-run partnership for the second wicket.
Marsh completed his century off 56 balls. He went on to play a brilliant innings of 117 runs from 64 balls, including 10 fours and 8 sixes, before being dismissed by Arshad Khan.
Pooran remained unbeaten on 56 runs off just 27 balls, while captain Rishabh Pant was also not out at the crease with 16 runs.
Gujarat's bowling unit struggled, with only Sai Kishore and Arshad Khan managing to take one wicket each.
