Bengaluru defeated Chennai by 2 runs to claim the top spot.


Royal Challengers Bengaluru has climbed to the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) points table.

Bengaluru reached the top spot after defeating Chennai Super Kings by 2 runs last night.

Chasing a target of 214 runs set by Bengaluru, Chennai fell short as they failed to score 6 runs in the final three balls.

The pressure mounted on Chennai after captain MS Dhoni was dismissed on the third ball of the final over.

After Dhoni’s dismissal, Shivam Dube hit a six on the fourth delivery. With Yash Dayal’s delivery being a no-ball, Chennai came very close to winning.

They needed just 6 runs from the last three balls. However, Chennai managed only a single run on each of those deliveries and eventually lost the match.

For Chennai, Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten with 77 runs. He struck 8 fours and 2 sixes in his 45-ball innings.

Earlier, opener Ayush Mahatre scored 94 runs, hitting 9 fours and 5 sixes off 48 balls. Saiq Rasid contributed 14 runs, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni added 12, but the rest of the batters failed to make an impact.

In bowling, Lungi Ngidi took three wickets, while Krunal Pandya and Yash Dayal claimed one wicket each.

Batting first, Bengaluru posted a total of 213 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Openers Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli both scored half-centuries for Bengaluru.

Kohli scored 62 runs off 33 balls, smashing 5 fours and 5 sixes. Bethell added 55 runs off 33 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Romario Shepherd delivered a brilliant finish, remaining unbeaten on 53 runs off just 14 balls, including 4 fours and 6 sixes.

Devdutt Padikkal contributed 17 runs, while captain Rajat Patidar added 11.

For Chennai, Matheesha Pathirana took three wickets, while Noor Ahmad and Sam Curran picked up one wicket each.

With this win, Bengaluru has climbed to the top of the table with 14 points from 11 matches. Chennai, on the other hand, sits at the bottom with just 4 points from the same number of matches, having won only two games in the entire tournament.
