Shreyas' captaincy innings led Punjab to a massive total.
At the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, after losing the toss and being invited to bat, Punjab Kings posted a massive total of 243 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs.
For Punjab, captain and debutant Shreyas Iyer was the top scorer, making 97 runs off 42 balls, hitting 5 fours and 9 sixes. He missed his first-ever IPL century by just 3 runs.
In the fifth-wicket partnership, Shreyas and Shanshak Singh put together an unbeaten 81-run stand. Shanshak remained not out at 44 off 16 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Marcus Stoinis was dismissed for 20 runs off 15 balls, including 1 four and 2 sixes.
In his IPL debut, Punjab opener Priyansh Arya scored 47 runs off 23 balls, hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes, before getting out. Glenn Maxwell was dismissed on the very first ball, while Azmatullah Omarzai contributed 16 runs.
For Gujarat, Sai Kishore was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets, while Rashid Khan and Kaciso Rabada took 1 wicket each.
