Royal Challengers register their third victory.


Royal Challengers Bangalore have secured their third win in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They defeated Mumbai Indians by 12 runs today.

Chasing a target of 222 runs, Mumbai Indians fell short, managing 209 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton were dismissed for 17 runs each, with Mumbai's score at just 38 runs when both were back in the pavilion.

After that, Will Jacks (22) and Suryakumar Yadav (28) also fell cheaply, and Mumbai had only 99 runs on the board for the loss of 4 wickets.

Tilak Varma and captain Hardik Pandya then stitched together an 89-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Tilak scored 56 off 29 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes, before being dismissed. Soon after, Hardik was also out for 42, leading to Mumbai's eventual defeat.

In bowling, Krunal Pandya starred with 4 wickets, while Yash Dayal and Josh Hazlewood claimed 2 wickets each.

Earlier, at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first. Royal Challengers posted a massive total of 221 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Phil Salt was dismissed early for just 4 runs.

After that, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal built a 91-run partnership for the second wicket. During this stand, Kohli completed his half-century off just 29 balls, hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes to reach 50 runs. Padikkal, on the other hand, scored 37 off 22 balls before getting out.

Kohli was dismissed for 67 as the third wicket, having faced 42 balls and smashed 8 fours and 2 sixes. When he got out, Royal Challengers had reached 143 runs. Soon after, Liam Livingstone was dismissed for a duck.

Then, captain Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma added 69 runs for the fifth wicket. Patidar played a brilliant innings, scoring a half-century in just 25 balls. He made a crucial 64 off 32 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes, before being dismissed by Trent Boult. Jitesh remained unbeaten on 40.

In bowling, Hardik Pandya bowled 4 overs, conceding 45 runs and taking 2 wickets. Trent Boult also took 2 wickets, giving away 57 runs in his 4-over spell.

With this win in their fourth match, Royal Challengers have now collected 6 points from 3 victories. Meanwhile, Mumbai suffered their fourth defeat in five matches and remain on just 2 points.
