RCB's loss against Punjab.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Punjab Kings secured their fifth victory. Today, Punjab defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 5 wickets.
Punjab successfully chased a modest target of 96 runs, securing victory with 5 wickets in hand in just 12.1 overs. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered yet another defeat on their home ground.
Punjab’s openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya were dismissed for 13 and 16 runs respectively, with the team’s score at 32. Soon after, skipper Shreyas Iyer fell for 7, followed by Josh Inglis for 14. At that point, Punjab had lost 4 wickets for 53 runs.
However, Nehal Wadhera stepped up and guided the team to victory with an unbeaten 33 off just 19 balls, smashing 3 fours and 3 sixes. His performance ensured Punjab reached the target with 11 balls to spare.
In bowling, Josh Hazlewood delivered a sharp spell, taking 3 wickets for just 14 runs in 3 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar contributed with 2 wickets.
The match, held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, was delayed due to rain and reduced to 14 overs per side. Punjab won the toss and opted to field first.
RCB, batting first, managed only 95 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 14 overs. Their batting performance was highly disappointing.
At one stage, they were struggling at 42 for 7. Most of the top and middle-order batsmen failed to make an impact.
Opener Phil Salt scored just 4, Virat Kohli managed only 1, Liam Livingstone 4, Jitesh Sharma 2, while Krunal Pandya and Manoj Bhandage were both dismissed for just 1 run each.
Captain Rajat Patidar scored 23 runs off 18 balls, hitting one four and one six. It was Tim David, batting lower down the order, who helped RCB avoid an even more embarrassing total.
Tim David played a brilliant knock, scoring an unbeaten 50 off just 26 balls, which included 5 fours and 3 sixes. He added 21 runs in the final over alone, standing tall as the only real contributor in RCB's innings. Apart from David, no other batter managed to reach double figures.
Punjab’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance. Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Harpreet Brar all took 2 wickets each, sharing the spoils evenly.
This was Punjab’s seventh match of the tournament and their fifth win. With 10 points, they have now climbed to second place in the league standings.
For RCB, this marked their third loss in seven games. With 8 points, they have dropped to fourth place on the table.
