Mumbai Indians secured their first win in IPL 2025 by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets. Chasing a target of 117 runs, Mumbai completed the task in just 12.5 overs, losing 2 wickets along the way.

Ryan Rickelton played a key role in the chase, remaining unbeaten on 62 runs off 41 balls, hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes. Will Jacks contributed 16 runs off 17 balls, while Rohit Sharma made 13 runs off 12 balls before getting out. Suryakumar Yadav finished unbeaten on 27 runs off 9 balls, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes.

For Kolkata, both wickets fell to Andre Russell.

Earlier, Kolkata, batting first after losing the toss at Mumbai's home ground, Wankhede Stadium, were all out for 116 runs in 16.2 overs.

Ankit Raghuwanshi was the top scorer for Kolkata with 26 runs off 16 balls, including 3 fours and 1 six. Ramandeep Singh added 22 runs off 12 balls, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. Manish Pandey made 19 runs off 14 balls, while Rinku Singh scored 17 runs off 14 balls. Captain Ajinkya Rahane made 11 runs off 7 balls.

Openers Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock were both dismissed cheaply, with Narine failing to score and De Kock making just 1 run. Andre Russell made 5 runs, and Venkatesh Iyer contributed only 3 runs before being dismissed.

Mumbai's bowling attack was led by debutant Ashwini Kumar, who was impressive, taking 4 wickets for just 24 runs in 3 overs, dismantling Kolkata's batting lineup.

With this victory, Mumbai moved up to the 6th spot on the points table, having accumulated 2 points from 3 matches. Previously, they had lost to Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.

Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, are struggling at the bottom of the points table with 1 win and 2 losses from 3 matches. They had won their previous match against Rajasthan Royals, but lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their most recent game.
