Kolkata's success, another defeat for Hyderabad.


Sunrisers Hyderabad have suffered their third consecutive defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Hyderabad by 80 runs on Thursday. Hyderabad had won their first match of the season against Rajasthan but has since suffered three consecutive losses.

Chasing a target of 201 runs, Hyderabad was bowled out for 120 runs in 16.4 overs.

Heinrich Klaasen was the top scorer for Hyderabad, scoring 33 runs off 21 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Kamindu Mendis contributed 27 runs off 20 balls, hitting 1 four and 2 sixes.

Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 19 runs off 15 balls, while opener Travis Head managed 4 runs off 2 balls. Abhishek Sharma (2 off 6), Ishan Kishan (2 off 5), and Aniketh Verma (6 off 6) were dismissed cheaply.

For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy took 3 wickets each, while Andre Russell claimed 2 wickets. Harshit Rana and Sunil Narine picked up 1 wicket each.

Earlier, after losing the toss and being put to bat at their home ground, Eden Gardens, Kolkata posted a total of 200 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

Venkatesh Iyer was the top scorer for Kolkata, smashing 60 runs off 29 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

He built a crucial 91-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Rinku Singh, who remained unbeaten on 32 runs off 17 balls, hitting 4 fours and 1 six.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi contributed 52 runs off 32 balls, striking 5 fours and 2 sixes. The team suffered an early setback when opener Quinton de Kock was dismissed for just 1 run at a team score of 14. Fellow opener Sunil Narine managed only 7 runs before getting out.

For the third wicket, captain Ajinkya Rahane and Raghuvanshi forged a vital 81-run partnership. Rahane scored 38 runs off 27 balls, hitting 1 four and 4 sixes.

Despite a shaky start, Kolkata accelerated in the last five overs, adding 78 runs while losing just 2 wickets.

For Hyderabad, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Shami, captain Pat Cummins, Zeeshan Ansari, and Kamindu Mendis took one wicket each.

Hyderabad had lost its second match against Lucknow Super Giants and the third match against Delhi Capitals. With just 2 points from 4 games, Hyderabad is at the bottom of the table.

Kolkata had suffered a defeat against Mumbai Indians in its previous match. However, with 4 points from 4 games, Kolkata has climbed to the fifth position in the standings.
