Kolkata's Fourth Victory
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders secured their fourth victory by defeating Delhi Capitals by 14 runs.
Chasing a target of 205 runs, Delhi was restricted to 190 runs, losing 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Faf du Plessis was the top scorer with 62 runs, hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes off 45 balls. Captain Axar Patel contributed 43 runs, while Vipraj Nigam scored 38 runs and Karun Nair added 15 runs. Apart from these four, no other player managed to reach double digits.
In bowling, Sunil Narine took 3 wickets for 29 runs in his 4 overs, while Varun Chakravarthy claimed 2 wickets.
Earlier, at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi won the toss and chose to field. Kolkata made 204 runs in 20 overs, losing 9 wickets.
Kolkata had a solid start, scoring 79 runs in the first powerplay with the loss of 1 wicket. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed for 26 runs off 12 balls. Another opener, Sunil, scored 27 runs, and captain Ajinkya Rahane contributed 26 runs before being dismissed LBW by Axar Patel.
Soon after, Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 7 runs, was dismissed by Axar Patel as well. Ankit Raghuwanshi played a knock of 44 runs off 32 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes. Rinku Singh added 36 runs, and Andre Russell made 17 runs.
In bowling, Mitchell Starc took 3 wickets but missed a hat-trick in the final over. He dismissed Rovman Powell for 5 runs with an LBW on the third ball of the 20th over. In the fourth ball, Andre Russell was run out for 17 runs. Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel both took 2 wickets each.
This victory marked Kolkata’s fourth win in their tenth game, earning them 9 points and keeping them in the seventh position. Delhi, on the other hand, suffered their third loss in four games and remains in the fourth position with 12 points.
