Gujarat secures their third win in the IPL.
Gujarat climbed to second place on the points table with 6 points after handing Sunrisers Hyderabad a 7-wicket defeat.
Chasing a target of 153 runs, Gujarat secured the win in just 16.4 overs, losing only 3 wickets.
Gujarat had a shaky start, losing two wickets for just 16 runs. Opener Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for 5, while Jos Buttler got out without scoring.
However, captain Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar stabilized the innings with a 90-run partnership for the third wicket.
Washington narrowly missed his half-century, scoring 49 off 29 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes before being dismissed by Mohammad Shami. Shubman, on the other hand, reached his fifty, smashing 7 fours in a 36-ball innings.
Later, Shubman and Sherfane Rutherford guided Gujarat to victory. Shubman remained unbeaten on 61 off 43 balls, while Rutherford was not out on 35.
Sunrisers' bowling lacked impact. Mohammad Shami took 2 wickets and Pat Cummins managed 1 for them.
Earlier, Gujarat won the toss at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium and opted to field. Batting first, Sunrisers posted 152 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Sunrisers had a poor start, managing only 38 runs when openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were dismissed.
Travis Head was dismissed for 8 runs, while Abhishek Sharma fell for 18, both off Mohammad Siraj’s bowling. Soon after, Ishan Kishan also departed for 17, becoming the third wicket to fall.
Following the early dismissals, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy built a 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Klaasen was out for 27, and shortly after, Nitish followed him back to the pavilion, scoring 31 — the highest individual score for Sunrisers in the innings. By the time Sunrisers reached 105 runs, they had already lost 5 wickets.
After that, the remaining Sunrisers batters failed to contribute significantly and were dismissed cheaply. Captain Pat Cummins remained unbeaten, scoring 22 runs off just 9 balls.
In bowling, Mohammed Siraj delivered an impressive performance, taking 4 wickets for just 17 runs in his 4 overs. Prasidh Krishna and Sai Kishore chipped in with 2 wickets each.
This marks Gujarat's third win in four matches, taking their points tally to 6. On the other hand, Sunrisers, who sit at the bottom of the table, suffered their fourth consecutive defeat. With only 2 points from 5 matches, their journey in the tournament is turning increasingly difficult.
