Delhi's third consecutive victory.


Delhi Capitals registered their third consecutive win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by defeating Chennai Super Kings by 25 runs on Saturday.

Delhi defeated Chennai on their home ground for the first time since 2010. This marks Chennai's second consecutive home defeat of the ongoing season.

Chasing a target of 184 runs, Chennai could only manage 158 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Vijay Shankar was the top scorer for Chennai, remaining unbeaten with a half-century innings of 69 runs off 54 balls, which included 5 fours and 1 six.

Shivam Dube contributed 18 runs from 15 balls with the help of 1 four and 1 six. Devon Conway scored 13, Rachin Ravindra 3, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad 5, and Ravindra Jadeja got out for just 2 runs.

For the sixth wicket, MS Dhoni and Vijay Shankar shared an unbeaten partnership of 84 runs. Dhoni remained not out on 30 runs from 26 balls, hitting 1 four and 1 six.

For Delhi, Bipraj Nigam took 2 wickets, while Mitchell Starc, Mukesh Kumar, and Kuldeep Yadav each took one wicket.

Earlier, winning the toss and batting first at Chennai's M.A. Chidambaram International Cricket Stadium, Delhi posted a total of 183 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs.

Delhi's opener KL Rahul played a brilliant innings, scoring the highest with 77 runs off 51 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Delhi lost opener Jake Fraser-McGurk in the very first over without scoring a single run. For the second wicket, KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel built a 54-run partnership to stabilize the innings.

Porel contributed 33 runs off 20 balls, hitting 4 fours and 1 six. For the third wicket, captain Axar Patel added 36 runs with Rahul.

Captain Patel scored 21 runs from 14 balls, including 1 four and 2 sixes before getting out. For the fourth wicket, Sameer Rizvi and Rahul shared a 56-run stand.

Rizvi scored 20 runs off 15 balls, including 1 four and 1 six. For the fifth wicket, Tristan Stubbs partnered with Rahul to add 33 runs. Stubbs remained unbeaten on 24 runs from 12 balls, hitting 2 fours and 1 six.

For Chennai, Khaleel Ahmed took 2 wickets, while Matheesha Pathirana, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor Ahmad claimed one wicket each.

With this win, Delhi climbed to the top of the table with 6 points from 3 matches. Delhi had defeated Lucknow Super Giants in their first match and won against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their second.

Meanwhile, five-time champions Chennai have played 4 matches and sit in the eighth position with 2 points. Chennai had won their season opener against Mumbai Indians.

However, they lost their next two matches — against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the second game and Rajasthan Royals in the third.
