In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals secured their sixth win. On Tuesday, Delhi defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets.
Chasing a target of 160 runs, Delhi achieved the victory in 17.5 overs, losing only 2 wickets. Opener Karun Nair was dismissed for 15 runs. However, a 69-run partnership between Abhishek Porel and KL Rahul for the second wicket steadied the chase. Porel scored 51 runs off 36 balls.
Following that, KL Rahul and captain Axar Patel guided Delhi to victory. Rahul played a crucial unbeaten innings of 57 runs off 42 balls, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes. Axar remained not out on 34 runs from 20 balls.
With the ball, Aiden Markram took both wickets, while the other bowlers failed to make a breakthrough.
Earlier, Delhi won the toss and chose to bowl first. Batting first, Lucknow managed to score only 159 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Though they had a decent start, the middle order underperformed.
Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh shared an 87-run partnership for the first wicket. Delhi got off to a solid start, scoring 51 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay. Markram, who hit the highest score for Lucknow, made 52 runs off 33 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes.
Soon after, Nicholas Pooran was dismissed for 9 runs, and Abdul Samad fell cheaply for just 2. Opener Mitchell Marsh was also out for 45 runs. Following that, Ayush Badoni scored 36 before heading back to the pavilion, while David Miller remained unbeaten on 14.
In bowling, Mukesh Kumar shone with figures of 4 wickets for 33 runs in his 4 overs.
With this sixth win, second-placed Delhi now has 12 points — equal to table-toppers Gujarat Titans — but remains in second place due to net run rate. Meanwhile, this was Lucknow’s fourth loss in their ninth match. With 10 points, they currently sit in fifth position.
