Defeat of Mumbai against Lucknow.
Chasing a target of 204 runs, Mumbai managed to score only 191 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav was the top scorer for Mumbai, scoring 67 runs off 43 balls with 9 fours and 1 six. Mumbai was in trouble early, losing 2 wickets for just 17 runs. However, Suryakumar and Naman Dhir built a crucial 69-run partnership for the third wicket. Dhir contributed 46 runs off 24 balls, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes.
For the fourth wicket, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma shared a 66-run partnership. Tilak scored 25 runs off 23 balls, including 2 fours, before retiring out on the fifth ball of the 19th over. For the fifth wicket, Tilak and captain Hardik Pandya added 32 runs together.
Captain Pandya remained unbeaten on 21 runs off 16 balls, hitting 2 fours and 1 six. Opener Ryan Rickelton was dismissed for 10, while Will Jacks managed just 5 runs.
Mumbai needed 22 runs in the final over to win. Although Pandya hit a six on the first ball to raise hopes, Avesh Khan ensured that Mumbai couldn’t pull off the chase. With this win, Lucknow maintained their unbeaten record against Mumbai in the IPL league stage.
For Lucknow, Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Digvijay Rathi took one wicket each.
Earlier, at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, home team Lucknow posted 203 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs after losing the toss and being invited to bat first.
Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram scored half-centuries for Lucknow. Marsh top-scored with 60 runs off 31 balls, hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes.
For the first wicket, Markram and Marsh shared a 76-run stand off 42 balls. Markram made 53 runs off 38 deliveries, including 2 fours and 4 sixes.
For the fourth wicket, Markram partnered with Ayush Badoni to add 51 runs. Badoni scored 30 runs off 19 balls with 4 boundaries before getting out. Abdul Samad scored 4 runs off 2 balls, while Nicholas Pooran added 12 off 6 before being dismissed.
David Miller contributed 27 runs off 14 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. Captain Rishabh Pant, who has been out of form, failed again today and was dismissed for just 2 runs off 6 balls.
Pant had scored a duck in the first match against Delhi, followed by 15 runs in the second game against Hyderabad. In the previous game against Punjab, he managed only 2 runs. Bought by Lucknow for ₹27 crore, Pant has scored just 19 runs in 4 matches so far.
For Mumbai, captain Hardik Pandya was the standout bowler, taking 5 wickets while conceding 36 runs in his 4 overs. Trent Boult, Ashwini Kumar, and Vignesh Puthur also took a wicket each.
With the win, Lucknow climbed to sixth place on the points table with 4 points from 4 matches. Lucknow had lost their previous match at home against Punjab Kings. Meanwhile, the defeated Mumbai side sits in seventh position with 2 points from 4 matches. Mumbai had won their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders.
With this victory, Lucknow maintained their unbeaten streak against Mumbai in the IPL league stage.
