Chennai defeats Mumbai.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra’s half-centuries played a crucial role in Chennai’s victory. Chasing a modest target of 156, Chennai reached the total in 19.1 overs, losing six wickets.
Opener Rahul Tripathi was dismissed for just 2 runs by Deepak Chahar. Despite losing an early wicket at 11 runs, Chennai managed to score 62 runs in the powerplay.
Ruturaj played an explosive knock, smashing a half-century off just 22 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. He and Rachin Ravindra built a 67-run partnership for the second wicket.
Ruturaj was dismissed for 53, caught by Will Jacks off Vignesh Puthur’s bowling. Soon after, Shivam Dube (9) and Deepak Hooda (3) also fell to Vignesh, while Sam Curran departed for 4, putting Chennai under pressure.
However, Rachin, who had been steady at the crease since the beginning, played a composed innings to guide Chennai to victory. He reached his half-century with a six on the 42nd ball he faced and struck another six in the first ball of the 19th over to ease Chennai’s chase.
Rachin remained unbeaten on 59 off 44 balls, hitting 2 fours and 3 sixes.
Vignesh Puthur was the standout bowler for Chennai, taking 3 wickets for 32 runs in his 4 overs.
Earlier, Chennai won the toss and opted to field first. Mumbai posted a total of 155/9 in their 20 overs, losing 9 wickets. Mumbai had a poor start, managing just 52 runs in the powerplay while losing 3 wickets. Khalid Ahmed claimed the first two wickets.
Indian cricket team captain and opener Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck, and shortly after, Khalid bowled out Ryan Rickelton for 13 runs.
Will Jacks added 11 runs before being caught by Shivam Dube off Ravichandran Ashwin's bowling. At 36/3, Mumbai was under pressure, and they failed to form any significant partnerships.

With this victory, Chennai earned 2 valuable points, while Mumbai began their campaign with a defeat.
In the earlier match of the day, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs.
