A comfortable win for Kolkata.
Kolkata Knight Riders handed a humiliating 8-wicket defeat to a weak Chennai Super Kings side today. Chasing a modest target of 104 runs, Kolkata comfortably reached the mark in just 10.2 overs, losing only 2 wickets.
Kolkata claimed the win without any pressure. For them, Sunil Narine smashed 44 runs off 18 balls, hitting 2 fours and 5 sixes. Quinton de Kock contributed 23 runs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten on 20, while Rinku Singh stayed not out on 15, helping Kolkata secure the 8-wicket win.
In bowling, Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj picked up one wicket each.
Earlier, at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Kolkata won the toss and chose to bowl first. The decision by captain Ajinkya Rahane to bowl was justified by the bowlers, as Chennai managed to score only 103 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.
This total marks Chennai's third-lowest score in IPL history. Previously, they had scored just 79 and 97 runs against Mumbai.
Devon Conway was dismissed for 12, and Rachin Ravindra for just 4. Chennai had already lost both their openers with only 16 runs on the board.
Chennai had a weak start, scoring only 31 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the first powerplay. None of their batters could settle at the crease, struggling against Kolkata’s dominant bowling attack. Vijay Shankar top-scored with 29 runs.
Shivam Dube and Rahul Tripathi both contributed 16 runs each. Only four Chennai players managed to reach double figures. Ravichandran Ashwin, captain MS Dhoni, and Noor Ahmad were dismissed for just 1 run each, while Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Hooda were out for ducks.
Sunil Narine delivered a brilliant and economical spell, taking 3 wickets for just 13 runs in his 4 overs. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy took 2 wickets apiece.
With their third win in six matches, Kolkata now moves up to third place on the points table with 6 points. This marks Chennai's fifth consecutive loss — their worst losing streak in IPL history. They have only 2 points from 6 games so far.
